Snow by Night

We continue where we left off in the last chapter on Chapter 10, Page 2. Snow-by-Night gets her bearings, as she talks to the Liranequois. Being a manitou, Snow-by-Night is more familiar with the native nations and customs than the colonists from Everique. A couple of Kickstarter plugs I want to mention. The first is Moonshot, a project to create a 200 page volume packed with short stories by indigenous creators. it’s a fantastic project and worthy of your support. The second is SheNative, a clothing and accessory line by Devon Fiddler. There’s stuff for the guys too!

It’s a new year and we begin a new chapter — Chapter 10 Chasing Embers. In this chapter, Vivienne moves into the main cast. She becomes a force to be reckoned with in our story as she steers the course of events in Sherbourg. However, before we get to her, we have some unfinished business with Blaise and Snow-by-Night. One thing I’ve learned about my artist Julie. She loves symbolism and she really packed it into this shot of Jassart and Cienan in the library. Vivienne’s gesture epitomizes her feelings toward the pretty commoner boy, while Jassart smiles at her with his eyes closed. Read into that what you will. Vivienne is higher than Jassart but only because she’s on a ladder. She is noble, after all. She has to sit down to reach Jassart. There’s a few other things that Julie tucked away in there. I’ll leave you to find them. Some of them won’t be apparent until later in the story.

Speaking of symbolism and literary constructs, I hope you enjoyed the foreshadowing in Winter Fantasy. A lot of Blaise’s tale is hinted at in there. And gosh, golly, guess who the artist is for that vignette.

The chimera meets its end on page 12 of Engagement on Vineyard Hill. Vivienne and her cavalry squadron are successful. The chimera is slain, the battery is destroyed, and victory is at hand. Gloire to Aradie! Naty did a great job on this vignette. The horses, the chimera, the action. It was all wonderfully illustrated. Thank you, Naty.

We will not be updating this Wednesday and Friday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I’ve got a lot to be thankful for. Being able to make this comic, working with talented artists like Naty and Julie is another, having a wife that indulges my creative habits, having 5 and a half months with Elise — my sweet little Rosebud, and having a very precocious Charlotte who finds the frogkitty cute.
