Almanac – Liranequoia

October 30th, 2014

For this week’s almanac entry, I’m moving to the western side of the Levian Ocean to discuss Liranequoia. Liranequoia is one of the most powerful nations in Everique and controls the crucial trade routes from the inland rivers to the seaboard settlements of the Japethan colonies.

This is just the first entry for the Liranequois. I will keep adding to it as their role in the story continues to grow. I suspect that the Liranequois will become as large an entry as Aradie and get its own banner before I’m through. I’m doing a lot of research on the First Nations that I’m using as a model. There’s lots and lots of reading in my future to make sure I represent them properly.

NekoCon is coming up next weekend. Almost the whole gang will be there — me, Diane, and Julie. I just need to convince Naty to come up. heh heh

Next week, we begin the high action vignette Engagement on Vineyard Hill, starring Vivienne!

Painterly Ads

October 28th, 2014

The consensus was for artwork. So behold the four ads designed by Julie. She went with a painterly style and matched a catch-phrase that summed up that character. Blaise is my favorite. I love his hopeful expression. Snow’s determined look is very appealing to me as well.  Which one is your favorite?

If we expand the ads to include Vivienne, I was going to make her catchphrase “I aim to win, and I never miss.”

Chapter 9 Page 28

October 26th, 2014

Snow-by-Night makes her triumphant return on Chapter 9, Page 28, appearing before Blaise and the Liranequois. What happens next? We’ll find out in Chapter 10 Chasing Embers. Until then, we will begin the Chapter 9 vignette Engagement on Vineyard Hill next Monday. The vignette features Vivienne and Jacqueline and is illustrated by Natalie Baakalini, our colorist for Snow by Night. To see a sneak peek of Vivienne in her upcoming short, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

So I’d like to get your opinion. What should I post this coming Wednesday? I can either go with an additional almanac entry or I can upload some of the beautiful art Julie did for our online advertisements. Let me know and I’ll decide based on what you all recommend.

Almanac – Taliesin

October 23rd, 2014

Today’s Almanac entry is Taliesin, the absent great spirit of travel, exploration, and curiosity. He vanished across the western sea several hundred years ago, triggering the Age of Discovery. He has not been seen since.

Next month is Nekocon. I’ll be attending along with Diane. Julie will be down the aisle with Ianua. I’ll be participating in several panels with other webcomic artists, including Alternative Magics in Fiction, Making Imaginary Worlds, and, my favorite, Strong Female Characters: More Than Just a Big Sword.

Chapter 9 Page 26

October 19th, 2014

A hard-earned morning comes for Blaise on Chapter 9 Page 26 as do some other travelers in the woods. This group has been waiting backstage for 9 chapters now and it is time for them to come onto the center stage of our tale of colonial fantasy. To see what the Liranequois do next, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

We’re almost to the ned of this chapter. The coming vignette is illustrated by our gloriously talented colorist Naty Baaklini. She will be helping me tell a story about Vivienne and Jacqueline and their recent adventures on the contested border between Morante and Saronne. Oh, it’s going to be fun.

Almanac – Knorre

October 16th, 2014

I’m on a roll talking about mythic things like manitou and malignant spirits. I thought I’d give some more information about another Great Spirit. Knorre (KNOR-eh. the k is pronounced) is the great spirit of crafting and artifice. He’s also the patron spirit of Kleef. Kleef is the mother country of Meerpelt, where Blaise was headed. What could this possibly mean for our story?

In other news, I was re-lettered A Life So Free. I was never entirely happy with the font I used for Peyre’s letter. It was difficult to read and that’s not good for a webcomic. I changed it to Quahog from Blambot which is what I’m using as the caption font for Chapter 9. It has a good weight to it and its easier to read. Enjoy!

Chapter 9 Page 25

October 14th, 2014

Paws-Tread-Lightly shakes Chugan until he explodes on Chapter 9 Page 25. Wait, Chugan does what? I guess he’s his own murder.
