Chapter 2 Page 13 is posted. Jassart meets with his supplier of all things alchemical.

I’m back from Baltimore Comic-Con. It was a nice convention and we met a lot of great people. Stan Lee was there too. Strangely, he did not come by the table to talk to us. I’m sure it was an oversight. Next up is Intervention in Rockville in September.

Brittany gave me some sketches of the clerical vestments for the priests of Giavere. For a peek at them, vote for us on Top Web Comics.

Chapter 2 Page 11

August 14th, 2011

Chapter 2 Page 11 is up. Our scene shifts as we follow Blaise to the Harp and Trumpet. As usual, Blaise quickly loses control of the conversation.

We have Baltimore Comic Con this weekend. Brittany and I will be there at Table A123 along with chapter books and a variety of buttons. I’m thinking of making some new quote buttons like “Go fart in the clover” or “Won’t isn’t can’t” (but that last one is a quote from Chapter 3).

Chapter 2 Page 10

August 9th, 2011

Almanac References: Belle, Bertrande Grusseau

Chapter 2 Page 10 is up. The boys lay out their trap in the museum. I’m sure everything will go perfectly according to plan without any snags at all.

Snow by Night will be attending Baltimore Comic Con on August 20-21. We’re in the Artist Alley at table A123. Pretty easy to remember, huh? That’s good, because we’re listed under my name (Eric Menge) instead of Snow by Night. I’ll have to get that straightened out for next year. Anyway, we’ll have the beautiful chapter 1 books, character buttons, chibi buttons, and the very popular quote buttons (“And Bees” and “Scallywag” are our most popular).

On a different topic, I learned some new techniques for creating word balloons from some of the artists at Otakon. I tried them out last week and really liked the results. So I went back and redid the balloons for all the pages in chapter 2. A peculiar thing happened while I was redoing Page 8. Blaise started whispering in my ear. He had an idea for new dialog on the last two panels. I tried to tell him that I wasn’t redoing language, just the balloons, but he was very insistent. “Come on,” he said, “It’ll be funny. And it works better than what you have now.” I glared at him over that last bit, but he was right. So I added in the new lines. Jassart heard about it and demanded a new line too. Then Cienan’s maid jumped on the bandwagon. Gah, I opened the floodgates. These characters are getting out of hand.

Chapter 2 Page 8

August 2nd, 2011

Chapter 2 Page 8 is up.The action switches back to Blaise and we find out how he is spending his time at Cienan’s house.

I’ve recovered (mostly) from Otakon. It was an incredible show with more than 31,000 attendees. Thousands of people streamed by our table in Artists’ Alley, and Brittany and I spoke to hundreds over the weekend. To those who stopped by, said hello, and listened to us talk about our comic, thank you! We also got a chance to meet some artists. We sat by Erin McManness who makes incredible illustrations and jewelry. I got to hang out with Shazzbaa of Runewriters and Stephanie Stober of Final Arcanum. I also met an incredible artist – Dirk Tiede of Paradigm Shift. His comic of paranormal action/horror is one of the best I’ve read. And no convention is complete without Jennifer Zyren Smith of LaSalle’s Legacy. Her story is firing on all cylinders. Go check it out.

I’m uploading pictures from the convention to our Facebook page. Please take a look! And a new incentive is up on Top Web Comics. Give us a vote to see Blaise and Jassart’s attempt at angelic faces.

Chapter 2 Page 6

July 26th, 2011

Almanac Reference: Surnames

Chapter 2 Page 6 is up. Cienan makes a very strange request of Jassart in return for his help. Jassart is less than amused. This update’s vote incentive is a glimpse at what Cienan offers Jassart to help them catch the thief. Vote for us on Top Web Comics to see.

Otakon is this weekend. It’s going to make uploading the almanac entry on Friday an interesting experiment. We haven’t done this on the road before. Diane is great so I’m sure it will go of without a hitch. Please come see us in the Artists’ Alley. We’re table U-07, which you can find on this handy Map of Artists’ Alley.

This week’s almanac entry is the bio for Vivienne de Carailles who joins our cast. As a governor’s daughter in a fantasy story, she has to be beautiful. I think it’s one of those unbreakable rules of fiction. But there’s a lot more to her than just that. You can find her entry both in the Almanac under People > Rulers and under the Cast page.

Otakon is just a week a way. We have a lot of buttons for sale. Here are a few samples. Come by and pick some up!

Chapter 2 Page 3

July 17th, 2011

Chapter 2 page 3 is up in which Blaise and Jassart meet a very special lady. As for who she is, she is the subject of this week’s almanac entry which will go up on Friday. And hurray! We’re now posting twice a week. I’m very pleased that we are taking this step.  I’m really looking forward to sharing twice as much a week as I was before.

In addition to webcomics, I’m a pretty avid RPGer. In fact, I just had an article published by Wizards of the Coast. If you’re a fan of the Forgotten Realms, then you may enjoy my article on Daggerdale, which brings the dale up to the most recent date of 1480 DR. It’s been getting great feedback on the D&D forums.

Brittany, Diane, and I will be at Otakon at the end of the month. We’ll have buttons and books for sale.

Chapter 1 Revisions

July 10th, 2011

No almanac entry today. Instead, I have a ton of other updates and a lot of news. First, we are putting together our first chapterbook. This 40-page book has all of chapter 1, the Feathers and Frost vignette, and three pages of new material only available in the chapterbook. While doing the layout for the chapterbook, I came across numerous formatting and lettering issues. I’ve gotten a lot better at lettering since we started so I went back and fixed the lettering throughout the entire chapter. This took the time I had allotted to write the almanac entry, but I felt that this was necessary. The changes have made the pages much easier to read and more pleasing to view.

This brings me to the next bit of news. Brittany and I will be attending Otakon on July 29-30. We will have the brand new chapterbooks and lots of cool buttons. In addition, Brittany will be taking commissions during the convention. We are at table U07 in the Artists Alley. You can find us on this handy map of the Otakon Artist Alley. So come by and have Brittany draw you in colonial garb.

GenCon is also rapidly approaching, and I will be attending. I’m a huge fan of tabletop RPGs. D&D is one of my favorite. I have written a D&D adventure that is premiering at GenCon for the Ashes of Athas campaign. It’s titled AoA3-2 The Veil Parted ,and you can find it in the Sagamore Ballroom with all the other RPGA adventures. If you’re attending GenCon, please give it a try.
