Losing by Winning Page 6

November 5th, 2012

Almanac Reference: Rapscallion

Vivienne and Marguerite go for the jugular in Page 6 of Losing by Winning. I think the muskets are less dangerous than these two. To see Sunny’s sketch of the page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic.

You know how bad things come in threes. Well, the third thing happened this past weekend while we were at Nekocon. My grandmother passed away on Saturday. She lived to be 93. That’s a long time when I sit and think about it. She was born when Woodrow Wilson was president. She saw her husband sail across the sea to fight in World War II. She ran the family business — a floral shop where the telephone number was 714. Three numbers. That’s it. There were less than a 1,000 phones in the entire town. The years passed and the world changed and in time she was logging onto Skype so she could talk to her great grandchildren.

I need to attend her funeral and say my last goodbyes to her this week. My apologies, but there will not be a page update on Wednesday. I have a piece of art given to us by Rachel at Tangent Artists. It is quite amusing. I’ll ask Diane to upload it on Wednesday. Also, I will try to get a photo album con report up for Nekocon on our Facebook page before I leave.

Almanac – Jacqueline de Tilly

November 1st, 2012

This week’s almanac entry is Jacqueline de Tilly. She’s Vivienne’s lady-in-waiting, aide-de-camp, co-conspirator, friend, and advisor. She’s got a keen eye and a sharp wit. It’s always the quiet ones who are the most dangerous.

Brittany and I are off to Nekocon tomorrow morning. With the hurricane rolling through, this one snuck up on me. We’ll be there with books, prints, and buttons. Come by and say hello.

Chapter 5 Page 11

September 25th, 2012

Our scene changes to the Harp & Trumpet with Chapter 5 Page 11, as Jassart and Blaise discuss the effects the manitou is having on their thieving. I’m also throwing in a small tidbit about the world in there. Chances are good that it will come up again in the story.

For today’s vote incentive, I wanted to share Brittany’s pencils for this page. She often writes humorous commentary for the action while she’s penciling. To see her take on the action in the Harp and Trumpet, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic.

I got the Intervention album up on our Facebook page. I was able to get 30 photos and provide commentary. I was using the camera phone, and I really need to hold the phone steadier when I shoot. I’m used to my SLR which has such a fast shutter speed that I don’t have to worry about it. This one… not so much. Anyway, go check out Intervention con report as a photo album.

Chapter 5 Page 10

September 23rd, 2012

Almanac Reference: Sun-in-Splendor

Mathilde and Snow-by-Night have a heart-to-heart in Chapter 5 Page 10. Well, that might be a bad turn of phrase when referring to the manitou. Mathilde asks the question “So what does your heart look like?” Kinda basic question there, Blaise. Our scene shifts back to the Harp & Trumpet on Wednesday. To see Brittany’s incredibly detailed depiction of the hottest saloon on Iniquity Row, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Brittany and I spent the weekend at Intervention in Rockville, Maryland and had a blast. Intervention is a small convention that focuses heavily on creators so we got to spend a lot of time talking to our other webcomic creators. Silliness abounded, as well as some informative panels and amazingly geeky entertainment. I’ll be posting a con report / con photo album on our Facebook page later this week. If you want to head over there now, Brittany has posted some of the great art we received in trades from other creators at the show.

New Fan Art

September 20th, 2012

Hi everyone, Diane here! Instead of Eric’s usual Almanac update, today we have a new piece of fan art to add to the Extras page. Please take a look at the lovely piece by Christina Major here. You guys have no idea how giddy it makes me to see fan art of my favorite girl – though Snow-by-Night has been creepin’ up on that award. We’ll see if you agree in the coming pages.

Brittany and Eric are off to Intervention this weekend without me, so if you see them there, feel free to stop by and say hello, pick up our book, commission Brittany, or take them both to task for leaving me behind. If you can’t make it to the con, you can always help support Snow by Night by voting for us on Top Web Comics. We always have some kind of sneak peek of the next page up for you, so please vote daily!

Chapter 5 Page 9

September 18th, 2012

Almanac Reference: Giavere’s Gaze

Mathilde and Snow-by-Night meet on Chapter 5 Page 9. This is the manitou’s first meeting with someone other than Blaise and Jassart, and this could go poorly for all involved. If you want to see how much snow it takes for Snow-by-Night to form her body, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic.

It’s a busy couple of weeks for me. My thanks to Naty for covering the journal on Monday. I’ll probably be asking Diane to cover Friday’s journal as Brittany and I are headed to Intervention this weekend! This delightful convention makes up in awesomeness what it lacks in size. It’s a treat to meet a lot of other creators and they will be there in spades. If you are in the Washington, DC area, I recommend you stop by.

I also have a couple interviews that are up. The first is for Greyhawkery, a blog for the World of Greyhawk and all things Dungeons & Dragons. I’m a huge RPG geek, running games and even freelancing for WotC, and Greyhawk is one of my favorite worlds. Mort cast me into the Ring of Five Questions and dared me to write my way out.

In addition, Brian James and I were interviewed by Byron and Liz of Rho Pi Gamma. Brian and I wrote the book Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue together. We had a great time chatting up a storm with the two, all while I tried to derail Byron’s agenda for the podcast. Liz is also the creator of another fine webcomic Adrastus.

Chapter 5 Page 3

August 26th, 2012

Almanac References: Ninnyhammer, Sacre

Chapter 5 Page 3 is up. Being a showgirl, Mathilde knows how to make an entrance. But Jassart might not like the show he’s about to get. To see a peek of the two of them getting into it, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic.

The long promised GenCon report is up. I did it through pictures. They’re all up on our Facebook page. I had a great time at the convention. I got to meet Greg in person as well as Christine – one of my fellow artists in SpiderForest. Wizards also released my book Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue. It got a very good review on EN World. I’m so excited.

Chapter 5 Page 1

August 20th, 2012

Hello everyone! Diane and I are back from GenCon (just got back 15 minutes ago at 1 a.m.). The convention was incredible. I’ll have a convention report and pictures up by Wednesday.

Chapter 5 Ill-Gotten Gains begins. In this chapter Blaise and Jassart discover the many consequences of a job well done. To see a preview of the first consequence, vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
