Chapter 14 Page 13

Mathilde dresses for the kill when she visits Cienan. Yet he seems unconcerned. What does Mathilde have planned? Vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics and see for yourself!

Steph and I are back from Indigenous ComicCon. What a great show! About 1,000 people attended, which is pretty good for a first-year con. Things went very smoothly. Lee Francis did an amazing job organizing it. I wanted to go to ALL the panels. They were that good. One of my favorite was run by Jonathan Joss, who is the voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill and plays Ken Hotate on Parks & Rec. I’m looking forward to going back next year!

On a humorous side note, the cramp in my calf muscle was so bad that TSA picked it up on their scanner and had to pat down my leg every time I went through security. One of them even commented, “Man, that’s a serious cramp.” It’s doing much better today. It’s almost gone. Just a bit more stretching.

Four years late, but how the heck did the TSA pick up your muscle cramp on a scanner? I’ll admit I don’t know much about how their scanners work, but wow.

Nice way to be unsubtle in the 2nd panel there. XD

I’ve always rather liked Cienan. I’m starting to like Mathilde now though. Could be because she’s not technically seeing Jassart anymore. (I mean, come on, Jassart!? UGH! No taste… :-D)

I’m clearly very fickle about which characters I like. :-)

    Geez Mathilde, can you BREATHE?
Cienan is my favorite character by far. I don’t trust him any further than I can throw him, but I could read about him forever.

I’m glad because you’re going to get to read about him a lot in this chapter.

What I really want to know is why did he allow Jassart to steal the mask. I mean, Talon-That-Seek is an Apocalyptic level threat, isn´t he?

Only if the mask he stole is the real deal . . . as the audience, we’ve seen that he’s got lots of fae spirits hanging around. He could have easily had a duplicate of the mask made and had one of his little friends give it enough of a charge to fool Jassart (which would explain why it sparked when he took it but has remained inert when the alchemist tested it).

Even if it is the real deal, that doesn’t actually mean that Talons-That-Seek is still in it. How long could the spirit last in that sealed state, does he still exist? If he does, what would it take to extract him? Could Cienan have transferred him to another vessel? We don’t know the answers to any of these questions, but unless Cienan is a completely self-destructive villain (no evidence of that as yet) who would like to simply watch the world burn I think it’s safe to say he wouldn’t let a fool like Jassart get his hands on that kind of power. There’s got to be some trick, we just don’t know what that trick is yet.

      The Gorram Batguy

If she passes out at any point during the next three pages, we’ll have our answer. Y’know, unless Cienan is shown to have drugged her for some reason.

Just running through the cast list trying to think of someone I would trust. Ald? But he’s on the take.

While I’ve never cared much for Robert Heinlein’s politics, one comment of his that I’ve always liked applies here – that a politician who wants to think of themselves as honest and noble is capable of any crime as long as they can rationalize it as “for the good of the people”, but one who stays bought can be trusted. Ald may be for sale to whoever can pay his price, but once he’s bought, he seems to stay bought.

So you can trust him as long as he stays bought, and he’ll stay bought as long as you’ve got cash, so you can trust him as long as you aren’t broke!

      SomePerson

Blaise. Aside from the fact that he’s a thief by trade, he’s actually quite honest.

    Chasey

I hope this somehow works in her favor instead of his, just because I don’t like Cienan very much. (That’s probably just me!) But it makes for wonderful plot conflict.

      Introverted Chaos

I like Cienan as a character in that I think he’s interesting, well-written, and believably enigmatic, but I don’t trust him even a little bit.
