Blaise Illustration

October 31st, 2013

Hello, everyone! This is Diane here, reporting in for duty while Brittany and Eric pack for NekoCon tomorrow! If you’re attending, please swing by the Artist Alley to say hello and check out our awesome merchandise – or just bother Brittany and Eric. They need a good bothering at conventions.

NekoCon may also be the last chance to pick up one of our Snow-by-Night business cards, since Brittany has worked on some new artwork to replace the cards that were first designed during Chapter 1. Today’s post features Blaise’s illustration, which includes a bit of symbolism that you’ve probably picked up on in the story thus far.

On Monday we return to the Chapter 7 vignette, A Life So Free. You can get a sneak peek at the next page by voting for us on Top Web Comics!

A Life So Free Page 3

October 29th, 2013

Peyre explains his love for the life of a voyageur in Page 3 of A Life So Free. The voyageurs were the long-haul truckers of colonial French Canada. They paddled canoes loaded with trade goods from Montreal to the native towns on the Great Lakes then made the return trip laden with furs. They were strong men used to adversity and were not a breed to be trifled with lightly. To see a preview of page 4, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

This weekend, Brittany and I will be attending NekoCon in Hampton Roads, Va. Come by and see us. We’ll be bringing books, prints, and buttons, as well as friendly chatter and some tall tales.

Don’t forget to check out Sunset Grill when you get a chance. It reminds me of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina. And that’s a good thing.

A Life So Free Page 2

October 27th, 2013

References: Voyageurs

We discover the contents of Bertrande’s late husband’s letter in A Life So Free page 2. He was a voyageur — one of the canoe men that paddle from Aradie to the distant native nations of the Upper Country. It’s a dangerous life but a profitable one. To see a peek at page 3, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

This week’s SpiderForest comic of the week is Sunset Grill. This sci-fi adventure set several centuries in the future centers around the patrons of the Sunset Grill, a bar on the shady side of a run-down and corrupt city. Give this non-linear story a read when you have a moment.

This week’s Almanac entry are three more guilds – leatherworkers, smiths, and woodworkers. These three guilds fill out many of the everyday craftsmen and women in Sherbourg. Economics is serious business in the colony with commerce and politics and power all tangled up together.

A Life So Free Page 1

October 22nd, 2013

The Chapter 7 vignette is A Life So Free with art by Minuiko. This is the story of Bertrande, who is going to figure prominently in Chapter 8. I hope you enjoy it.

To see a preview of the next page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics. Minuiko did a fabulous job of capturing the imagery of the voyageurs and the Great Lakes.

Don’t forget to check out Stargazer’s Gate when you get a chance.

Chapter 7 Page 27

October 20th, 2013

Mathilde arrives at Blaise’s door with dire news on Chapter 7, Page 27. What will Blaise do next? Will Snow-by-Night level the town? Will Bertrande drain the manitou of all her aether? All these questions will have to wait until Chapter 8 Of Making and Unmaking.

Starting Wednesday, I’m pleased to present the vignette A Life So Free, drawn by the incredibly talented Minuko. To see preview of one of the main characters from the vignette, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic. Is that…?  A younger…?

The Spider Forest comic of the week is Stargazer’s Gate. The result of NaNoWriMo 2012, Stargazer’s Gate explores the idea of interconnected worlds with vastly differing cultures, curses, and dreams. Join Atrina Vilanar as she stumbles through a gate into the tightly controlled world of Wynd, leaving behind her sister, Leawyn, who’s certain Atrina isn’t dead.

This week’s Almanac entry are the two wealthiest guilds in town — the Blazoners’ and the Order of the Erudite. Mathilde made it to Bertrande’s laboratory where we can see the alternate guild marque of the Erudite. Diane has draw the guild marques to accompany the entry.

I’m pleased to announce that we now have digital downloads of Chapters 1 through 4 available in the Snow by Night Store. These are pdfs of the chapter books. When you order them through the store, you’ll get an unique download URL to get the chapter. Diane has tested the pdfs on the Kindle and they work there too.

Finally, Snow by Night will be attending NekoCon next month in Hampton Roads, Virginia. It’s a fun convention and we always have a great time there.

Chapter 7 Page 26

October 15th, 2013

Mathilde’s curiosity drives her to peek into the window of Bertrande’s laboratory on Chapter 7 Page 26. She does not like what she sees. To see a preview of our final page of Chapter 7, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Snow by Night has been invited to join Reverie Comics. Brittany and I are honored to join the likes of Amya, Earthsong, Everblue, Toilet Genie, and Valkyrie Squadron. We’ve added the Reverie Comics link button to our sidebar so please check out those other fine comics.

And speaking of other fine comics, the Spider Forest comic of the week is Cetiya, a cyberpunk serial. Give it a read! I’m working my way through the archives now.
