Almanac – Slang part 2
February 20th, 2011This week’s Almanac entry expands on an earlier one. I’ve doubled the size of the slang portion of the Almanac to account for all the terms and phrases being tossed about by our underworld players. I’m having a fun time researching and developing the terms (all the while getting help from my Quebecois braintrust). I hope you enjoy the colorful addition to the dialog.
Last week, Snow by Night got a terrific shout-out from Teos Abadia. Teos is one of the organizers of the fabulously awesome D&D living campaign Ashes of Athas, which you should play if you like D&D. Teos was a guest on Going Last, an RPG blog. He mentions us in Session 4 posted February 9th at about the 1:45 mark (that’s 1 hour and 45 minutes). I recommend listening to the entire podcast. It’s very informative – especially the Ashes of Athas portion.
Almanac Entry – Liaze Toupin
February 14th, 2011In this week’s Almanac entry, we meet Liaze Toupin, the brains and beauty behind Jehan’s Fine Hats. She’s a bit more than just an ordinary hat maker. Find out more about her in the Almanac.
This weekend is Katsucon. Both Ricky and Brittany are exhibitors in Artist’s Alley. Brittany is operating as “Bad Carrot Studios.” Stop by and say hello if you are attending.
And the final incentive pane for page 16 is up for those who vote on Top Web Comics.
Almanac – Slang
February 7th, 2011Our almanac entry this week is slang. You can find it under Language in the Culture section of the Almanac. I love playing with language and developing the slang – or “cant” – for Sherbourg has been a fun experiment. I began with The Vulgar Tongue by Francis Grose (first published in 1785) but I’ve expanded from that work to include terms from other source as well as those of my own creation. I have pages of various terms but I’m going to introduce them slowly as the story demands. So expect this section to continually grow throughout the tale.
Almanac – People
January 31st, 2011I added two new entries to the Almanac today – Alays Maccard and Claudine Nareau. Alays is the server at the Harp and Trumpet who appeared on page 10. Claudine is the spitfire silversmith giving Jassart an earful on page 13. Both entries may be found under the Merchant heading of the People section in the Almanac. Since the characters have appeared in the comic, these entries also appear on the Cast page.
Also, I’ve uploaded a new incentive panel for those who vote on Top Web Comics. Please vote for us! We greatly appreciate your support.
Almanac – Currency
January 24th, 2011We’ve got another update in the Almanac for you. On page 8, Jassart makes a comment about “A couple hundred blessings?” Blessings are the coins of the realm, but not the only coins. Take a look at the Almanac to see all the different types of currency used in Sherbourg.
Don’t forget, a new incentive picture is waiting for those who vote on Top Web Comic.
Almanac – Punch
January 16th, 2011This is our first Almanac update since we went live with the site in November. This week, our subject is punch! Blaise and Jassart are enjoying a pitcher at the Harp and Trumpet on page 9. In fact, Blaise gives away the ingredients to what they’re drinking. To find out more about this popular beverage, see the entry in the Almanac on punch. Just look under Cuisine in the Culture book of the Almanac.
