Revised Chapter 1

April 26th, 2017

Hello everyone! We have less than a week before I come back from our break, but I have an early surprise! Naty Baaklini, who colored chapters 4 through 12, also went back and recolored Chapter 1 to make that chapter more consistent with the rest of the story. You can find the new colored pages starting here. They are lovely.

Next month is going to be very busy for us at Snow by Night as I launch several initiatives that I’ve been working on since my surgery. One of those will be a Patreon campaign. I’ve gotten a lot of requests for this so I’m putting one together. I have would like to get your input. What sort of patron rewards would you like to see? I’m looking for suggestions from my readers so that I can provide what you’d like to see. Drop any ideas in the comments below.

Thanks everyone!

The Vault Door

February 10th, 2016

I have a special surprise for everyone today. Diane put together a mini-game of the Vault Door using art by Julie and Steph. Can you help Jassart get through the vault door? The mini-game is based on the 15 Puzzle that’s been around for more than a century and a half. We made it a bit larger, and instead of numbers, the tiles form some sort of design. Bonus points if you recognize what that design is.

Solve the Vault puzzle, and you’ll get a prize! It’s a special wallpaper by Julie. Please don’t share the link to the prize with others. Make them solve the puzzle to win it.

While the puzzle will be linked between pages 17 and 18 on the site, it’s not necessary to solve the puzzle to continue the story.

Let me know what you guys think. If you like this sort of thing, I can do more of them in the future.

Hiatus Update #3

July 1st, 2015

Hi everyone! Hiatus Update #3 here. I’m busy working on filling all the Kickstarter rewards that I promised. This past week I put together the offline Almanac, which is a snap shot of the Almanac as of June 2015. It’s 97 pages long and I still need to add the artwork.

We’re still on track to return next Monday with Chapter 11. Until then, here is the character design for Defiant Elk, who is the third major character we meet in the upcoming chapter. To our American readers, have a great holiday!

Hiatus Update #2

June 22nd, 2015

Hi everyone. Thank you for all the well wishes for Naty. I’ve passed them on. She’s taking things slowly at the moment. She still wants to keep coloring for me, for which I’m very grateful. For now, I’m anticipating that we’ll be back from our hiatus on July 6. This week’s character design is Distant Smoke, who is the second new character we meet in Chapter 11.

In Volume 2 news, I have accepted the printer’s proof for the volume files. It looks so beautiful. I can’t wait to feel the book in my hands, but that’s weeks — probably months — away.

For Father’s Day, I visited a reconstruction of the Hermione — a French frigate that carried Lafayette from France to the American colonies. It also saw a lot of action, helping the colonial continental army and the nearly non-existant continental navy. You can see the pictures on Snow by Night’s facebook page. You can also learn more about this amazing ship on the Hermione site.

Only a few days left in Juiie’s Kickstarter for Riven Seal. If you haven’t already, please give her your support.

Hiatus Extended

June 18th, 2015

Hi gang,

Some good news and then some bad news.  the volume is almost done. I submitted the files to the printer yesterday. I have a few minor fixes to make from their proofing, but it will be done this week. Also, I made some minor edits to the lettering for a few of the pages in Volume 2. Diane will be uploading those shortly.

Second, the bad news. Naty has a concussion and is under doctor’s orders to limit her electronic usage. So she’s going to be taking it easy for a little bit. I will need to extend the hiatus by two weeks to Monday July 6. I’m hoping that some rest and time will result in a speedy recovery.

Until then, I’m going to upload the design image of one of our new characters that we’ll be introducing in Chapter 11 every Monday. The first up is Toothy Kit. She’s a member of the Liranequois nation, and she loves walnuts glazed with maple syrup. The rest you’ll found out when we begin next month.

Painterly Ad – Vivienne

November 10th, 2014

Hi everyone. For today’s update, please enjoy the painterly ad for Vivienne! Julie did a fantastic job with her. I love, love, love this one. Sorry for the delay. We got back from NekoCon really really late last night.

Speaking of which, Nekocon was fantastic. Thank you to all of you that stopped by. We sold out of our Sailor Scouts in French Naval garb as well as our Roses of Alchemy. I had a fantastic time with Amanda, Savannah, Monica, Stephanie, and Yan on the panels we did there. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Painterly Ads

October 28th, 2014

The consensus was for artwork. So behold the four ads designed by Julie. She went with a painterly style and matched a catch-phrase that summed up that character. Blaise is my favorite. I love his hopeful expression. Snow’s determined look is very appealing to me as well.  Which one is your favorite?

If we expand the ads to include Vivienne, I was going to make her catchphrase “I aim to win, and I never miss.”

August Fan Art

August 28th, 2014

Hi everyone. It’s time for the Friday special update. At Otakon, I asked some of my favorite artists to draw a picture of one of the characters from Snow by Night. I got three very interesting pieces for three talented artists. They didn’t title the pieces. I did that because these pieces needed naming. If you’re on our Facebook page, these may be familiar, but they didn’t have the titles or the handy links where you can find the artists’ other works.

High Wire Act by Landon Franklin of Wayward Cross.

Summoning Snow by Garth Graham of Star Power.

Snow-by-Night in Watercolors by Annie Stoll of Ode Comic.

See you all on Monday with more Blaise and paws.
