Chapter 14 Page v7

Things go from bad to worse for Jassart. The villagers give into fear and hatred and drive himĀ out. You can imagine how Jassart responds, but see for yourself when you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics!

Ch15 script is in the bag! We’re a little bit behind the curve because of the cancer surgery. Julie is working on it as I write. She phenomenally fast so she’ll be way ahead by the time we run out of vignette. I also finished up the Ch15 vignette while on the plane back from ECCC. Chug chug chug! The train is picking up speed.

If it was me, being cheated out of my inheritance, and having all that done to me by these ….. flotsam. I’d be torching that cobbler shop. They would NOT be benefiting from what they stole from me. And if it spread? C’est le guerre. Though c’est la vie would probably be more apropos. I just like the first one better cuz Tom and Jerry.

Hello! I stopped by your booth at the Emerald City Comic-Con and just finished reading through the whole thing so far. It took me the whole week! This is an awesome webcomic.

Tell me, are any of the following influences on your comic?

Fullmetal Alchemist, Pocahontas, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Thank you, Levi! I’m glad you enjoyed it! We’re now in the second half of the story where things go boom a lot.

Everything you listed is one of my influences. I would also add James Fenimore Cooper’s Last of the Mohicans, Rankin/Bass’ Jack Frost, and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman.

Rankin/Bass Jack Frost! I found that one by accident and was wondering why it wasn’t a classic like the others—or is it and I’ve been out of the TV loop so long I missed the memo? (hey, did you all know they made another Batman movie? And he’s a Lego?)
My biggest complaint about that movie is it wasn’t long enough to explore some rather important decisions.

Oh, I almost forgot: The Road to El Dorado?

I may be way off base here, in which case, please feel free to pelt me with rotten tomatoes, but…

Jassart has demonstrated quite a few personality… quirks… while living in Sherbourg that makes him not the most likable person, but definitely not a person anyone would want to trust.

He is telling this story from his perspective, as the victim, which admittedly he is, but what kind of opinion did the townsfolk have of him. How many of these traits are because of this incident, and how many did he have prior to this incident?

I’m certainly not the author, and I have no way of knowing for sure, but it is food for thought.

    (let the hate begin!)

To be fair, townsfolk aren’t necessarily known for their trust of outsiders.

And then this stranger shows up, lives with Alcide (who seems pretty well-liked in the community) and is “conveniently” declared his sole heir when he dies? Yeah, distrustful people are gonna be distrustful.

Also: If there’s no heir, the possessions of a departed person fall to the town, i.e. its lord. So there’s probably another reason why the lord declared the will invalid.

Gold star for this post. We are seeing things as Jassart remembers them, and Jassart is an unreliable narrator. Like all of us, Jassart has forgotten things, obscured things in his memory, or was just not aware of everything going on. But what he does remember influences the type of person he has become.

Aww, now I feel sorry for Jassart… then I remember he had a big hand in doing something similar to Blaize for Bertrande’s death, despite his history here, and now I am conflicted. :<

    Eric Munson

Well, this is gonna put the relationship between Jassert and Ald in a whole new light…

*Talons-that-seek adding this to the ‘places to Visit’ list.
    *Audience provides kindling.

Okay, so it was a much simpler answer to why Jassart was no longer a shoemaker than I had imaged, but to be fair, I didn’t consider The Plague. Still, alternate history Jassart might have been a great shoemaker and a happier guy who wasn’t being manipulated by a fiery spirit. :)

Yeah, if a few things had gone differently, Jassart would gone in a vastly different direction. That’s one of the themes I was exploring with this vignette.

Just a note, Myth……I think you should check your Links section, some of them appear to have died. Riven Sol, for one…….

I never keep up with those links. I should probably pull them all down. Link exchanges really aren’t done much anymore. Thanks for the heads up.

At least he probably *made* the shoes on his feet, so they were pretty good ones.

And I’ve said it before, but seriously: those fiery borders are amazing.
