Almanac – Chocolate
March 1st, 2013This week’s Almanac entry is Chocolate. In colonial times chocolate was made into a drink and not eaten. Solid chocolate will have to wait for another century before the Dutch … er I mean Kleefish process cocoa powder that makes solid chocolate possible. This delectable drink is all the rage of society, and has lead to the creation of the chocolate house. They were so prolific that they were the Starbucks of the 18th century. They became social hot spots, especially for students. Yes, students have been lounging around in chocolate houses coffee shops for centuries.
Only one day more to submit to our Art Contest. Draw a picture of one of the characters of Snow by Night — any one you want from any chapter and any vignette in any setting, style, or medium that you want (but please keep it PG). Cash prizes (and a lot of cheering by the Snow by Night team) for the winners. Deadline is March 1 at midnight (Eastern time).

Mathilde proposes an alternative interpretation to Snow-by-Night’s quest much to Blaise’s dismay in Chapter 6 Page 5. To see a preview of page 6, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Friday is the submission deadline of our ART CONTEST! We would love to see your creations, and we have cash prizes for the top eight winners. As I clarified in a comment earlier this week, you may use your submission for promotional purposes, but please no selling of our characters.

We go back in time four days on Chapter 6 Page 4. Blaise seeks advice from Mathilde at the chocolate house. Our chanteuse certainly has opinions, but will they be of any help to Blaise? Chocolate houses were the Starbucks of the 17th century. We’ll be discussing them on Friday in the Almanac. To see a sneak peek of page 5 (and Brittany’s commentary on the panel), please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
We’ve started receiving submissions for our Art Contest. I’m really impressed with some of the entries so far. The deadline for entering is March 1. Send us your arts! We want to see them.

Almanac – Chute L’Heureux
February 21st, 2013This week’s Almanac entry is Chute L’Heureux, the waterfall in which Snow-by-Night is lurking at the beginning of this chapter. It is based on an actual waterfall — Montmorency Falls in Québec. If you get a chance, go see it. It’s breathtaking and it does form the giant sugarloaf of ice and snow on which Blaise is standing.
ART CONTEST! Only 7 days to go. We have to receive the entry by March 1 for you to be considered. Please consider submitting an entry. We have cash prizes along with all the ooohs and aaaahs of the Snow by Night team.
Chapter 6 Page 3
February 20th, 2013Is she still angry? Yeah, Snow-by-Night is still pretty angry on Chapter 6 Page 3. But at least she takes Blaise’s call! A major scene shift next week. To see a peek, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
I got the Katsucon convention report up on Snow by Night’s Facebook page. It’s done as a photo album (I always like do these as pictures so you can see the experience). Also, just over a week left before the deadline on our Art Contest. Draw one of our characters and you may win cash prizes.
Chapter 6 Page 2
February 18th, 2013Blaise ventures to the waterfall in search of the manitou Snow-by-Night in Chapter 6 Page 2. He shouts to the enormity of the vast Everique wilderness, hoping that she hears. To see a sneak peek of Wednesday’s page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Brittany and I attended Katsucon this past weekend. We had a blast. We met so many great anime fans and incredibly talented artists. I’ll have a convention report up on Wednesday. As usual, it will be in the form of a photo album on our Facebook page.
Almanac – Edits and Updates
February 15th, 2013Hello, everyone! Diane here, reporting in while Eric and Brittany are preparing for Katsucon this weekend. If you’re attending, please stop by to say hello and check out our books, buttons, and prints for sale!
Since Eric’s unavailable to do his usual write-up for the Almanac entry this week, we decided to review the existing entries and make some improvements. I’ve added a number of images to the Almanac entries that discuss things shown in the comic so far, and made a few tweaks here and there to fix word choice and order.
In Diane-related news, I’ve been working on the site’s redesign and hope to add some great new features soon. We do have plans to add the Journal’s Comment section to each Story page in the archive, along with plans to bring you bigger, better views of the Story pages once the redesign widens our content area to give us more space. Are there any specific features you’d like for us to add? Please let me know in the Comments here, and I’ll see what magic – I mean, what alchemy I can work!

Chapter 6 begins today with Page 1. The chapter title is “A Light in the Darkness” and I’ll leave it to you to decide what is that light. To see Brittany’s pencils for the next page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Katsucon this Friday! It’s going to be a great show. I didn’t get the map made this week like I hoped. I was too busy planning out the opera lyrics for later on in this chapter. Yes, opera. I figure if Assassin’s Creed 3 can work in an opera to its colonial adventure, then the door is opened.
