Inspiration in Quebec – Part 5

September 26th, 2013

In all the hustle and bustle of getting Eric and Brittany back from Quebec and ready to leave for Anime Weekend Atlanta, I’m afraid I didn’t get around to posting the update until a couple hours later than our usual time. Sadly, both Eric and Brittany are already asleep now, or I’d ask for more details on the lovely photos they brought us for today’s update on their inspirational tour Quebec. Eric has been uploading some of their photos to the Snow-by-Night Facebook album here, if you’d like to see more.

In convention news, if you’re going to be at AWA, please stop by to say hello and check out our chapter books and prints available for sale! We have also just received confirmation that we’ll be attending Ohayocon 2014, which has been added to our Upcoming Appearances list on the site.

Inspiration in Quebec – Part 4

September 24th, 2013

Eric picked out a few of his favorite shots of the city for you in today’s update on their trip through Quebec. I’ll be picking them up from the train later tonight, but the photographic updates will continue through this week with a new Story page returning on Monday. Eric is also going to be uploading more photos to an album on Snow-by-Night’s Facebook page here if you’re interested!

Inspiration in Quebec – Part 3

September 23rd, 2013

Today our pair of rogues wanted to show off the research they’ve been doing into Blaise’s line of work – lock-picking. Here are a few examples of the many hinges & locks that they’ve studied in Quebec. Hopefully they have the sense not to plan any secret heists with a manitou…

Inspiration in Quebec – Part 2

September 22nd, 2013

Continuing with our tour of Quebec, the city that inspired Sherbourg, today Eric and Brittany bring us pictures of some city buildings. You can see plenty of examples of the firewalls that were built between buildings, which were so thick that they usually had chimneys built in. Back in colonial times, when a hearth was the only option you had to heat your house, there were obviously a lot of fires; firewalls were a necessary precaution against losing whole neighborhoods every time a fire broke out. The buildings also have steep roofs and ladders leading up to them, which was necessary during heavy snowfall.

Inspiration in Quebec

September 19th, 2013

Diane here again to bring you an update on Eric and Brittany’s travels in Quebec! On the main page are three pictures that they took of the Quebec wall, built to protect the city from assault from the landward side. Eric tells me they’re having a great time exploring, scouring the upper city and the lower city for inspirational reference photos.

Chapter 7 Page 20

September 17th, 2013

Blaise shows off his excellent imagination and mad art skillz on Chapter 7 Page 20. Antoine is not amused.

Since Eric and Brittany are headed off to Canada as of 4am today, Diane is here to handle the updates while they’re snoozing on a train. I’m glad I got to introduce this page, which was one of my favorite parts of the script when Eric showed it to me. Brittany & Naty did a great job executing it.

Chapter 7 Page 19

September 15th, 2013

Behold the many faces of Giavere on Chapter 7 Page 19 — the moon goddess, the unicorn, and the lily on the water. At least, that’s how she appears to her followers. Other people (and spirits) might see a different face.

Almanac – Zollhaven

September 12th, 2013

This week’s Almanac entry is Zollhaven, the capital of the Kleefish colony of Meerpelt. It’s twice the size of Sherbourg and is growing larger every year.

This weekend, Snow by Night is joining other members of Spider Forest at SPX. If you’re going, please stop by. There will be all sorts of great comics available.

In other news, Brittany and I are heading up to Quebec next week to do some sight-seeing and a lot of research touring. Our little comic is set in a fantasy version of this city so we want to see it up close and in person and take a million pictures. So after we finish up with the scene with Blaise, we’ll be taking a brief hiatus from pages and the almanac. Instead, we’ll be posting pictures of our visit everyday. Join us for our tour of the first city of French Canada. Should be fun!
