Sketches!

February 16th, 2012

Katsucon starts tomorrow. Hope to see you all there. In the meantime, Brittany and I are considering printing a sketch book of all the design work that goes on behind the scenes of Snow by Night. Britt is a stickler for detail and I’m an amateur historian with piles of books around me when I write the script. Would you all be interested in such a publication? I’ve linked some samples of what we would include. Click on the image to see them full size.

Group Shot Sketch
This was the very first concept sketch of the Snow by Night crew. There have been some changes since then.

Alchemical Rifle Sketch
Brittany was very proud of this sketch of our alchemical rifle.

Blaise and Snow Sketch
I loved Snow-by-Night’s expression in this sketch.

Chapter 3 Page 28

February 15th, 2012

Almanac References: Cienan

Chapter 3 Page 28 is up. This concludes Chapter 3. I hope you enjoyed it. I left a parting gift to all of you in the final panel.

Beginning next Wednesday, we are starting the vignette Law of the Riverside, illustrated by Natalie Baaklini. This short story is the tale of Ald’s arrival in Sherbourg. Lots of action as Ald is a rough and tumble guy with quite a lot of history. Natalie is a fantastic artist. Take a look at her art when you vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

I just got Chapter 2 back from the printers. It looks lovely. You can buy a copy from us this weekend at Katsucon. We’d be happy to sign it for you as well. Even if you don’t buy anything, come on by. We’d love to meet you.

Brittany and I are considering releasing a sketchbook after Chapter 4 (which marks the end of Volume 1).  This Friday and Monday, I’m going to upload some sketches by Brittany. Please let us know if we should do the sketchbook. We’d appreciate the input.

Almanac – Language

February 10th, 2012

This week’s Almanac’s entry is a long overdue update to our Language page. I’ve been tossing around all sorts of joual (slang) the past couple of chapters and haven’t updated in months. So please enjoy the new glossary with all the terms defined. I even added in a few new ones to mix. Some of my favorites are Ald’s Hostel, Corned, Nique, and Staircase Wit. I also realized that I meant to use Ayoille on Page 26 instead of Aiyai. I’ve corrected the page.

Chapter 3 Page 26

February 7th, 2012

Almanac References: Ayoille, Shoon

Chapter 3 Page 26 is up. Blaise finds out one of the consequences of being a manitou made of snow. For all you shippers out there, smooching is going to be problematic.

Care to see what a pencilled page looks like? Brittany let me use part of one as a vote incentive. Vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics to see the page half formed.

Another new button for you! This will be available at our booth at Katsucon. Please come see us!

Chapter 3 Page 25

February 5th, 2012

Chapter 3 Page 25 is up. Blaise makes a convincing argument. Wait. Blaise made a convincing argument? To see Blaise suffering from Snow-by-Night’s reaction to their proposal, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.

Later this month, Brittany and I will be attending Katsucon on Feb. 17-19. If you are in the Washington DC area, please come by and see us in the Artists’ Alley. We’ll have books for Chapters 1 and 2. We’ll also have a variety of buttons, including this brand new one by Brittany.

Site Update – Links

February 2nd, 2012

Hello everyone! Diane and I are continuing to work on website improvements. So instead of an almanac entry this week, we’re upgrading the Links page. I’ve been meaning to do this for some time. I’ve broken the links into two sections – one for comics and one for gaming. I’ve asked Diane to add a lot of new links for us. These links include Paradigm Shift, Erstwhile, Baldman Games, and Going Last.

Chapter 3 Page 24

January 31st, 2012

And I’m back! My thanks to Brittany and Diane for covering for me while I was away. They did such a good job that I might sit back and let them do more of the journal entries in the future.

I was at Fort Wayne, Indiana since last Wednesday, attending DDXP. In case you don’t know by now, I’m a huge fan of D&D. I’ve played it for years, I’ve written countless adventures, and I even have a few published articles with Wizards of the Coast. The boundless potential of the game intrigues me and I love letting my imagination run amok. Anyway, Wizards is coming out with a new edition of the D&D game. The Wizards staff came to the convention and offered playtests of the new edition. I have to say that I like what I saw. The base mechanics are simple yet flexible. It was fast and fun. And there was so much laughter at the table. Kudos and thanks to Teos Abadia and Greg Bilsland for running my tables.

New page! Chapter 3 Page 24 is up. Blaise makes an offer that he may later regret. And there’s a new vote incentive. To see a preview of Blaise and Jassart’s aside, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics. It’s a new month, so all the votes have reset to 0. We have a chance to make a play for the top 25. Thank you for your support as always.
