In Chapter 5 Page 7, an utterly defeated Blaise tells Mathilde all about his pocket manitou. If a pocket monter is pokémon, is a pocket manitou a pokéman? I’ll have to ask Diane. Speaking of Diane, my thanks to her for covering for me on the journal entry on Monday. I was under deadline and didn’t have time to swing over. You’re a trooper and a treasure, Dee, but not a treasure trooper. That’s looks like a scam.

Almanac References: Howling Jay, Manitou

Hello, everyone! Diane here to bring you Chapter 5 Page 6, in which Mathilde is sly, Blaise is hopeless, and Jassart just gives up. This is another page where the script had me cracking up as I read through it, and Britt does a great job of illustrating what we called “Shoulder Jassart”. I feel bad for Blaise. No almanac entry this week. Instead, I’ve got a couple announcements. First, in response to feedback we received through the comments, Naty and I have made a few tweaks to Law of the Riverside Part 2 to make it a bit clearer which scenes are flashbacks. We shifted from the blue tone to sepia, removed the panel border, and gave the words a brownish tinge. We believe this should clear up any confusion as to the flashbacks and improve readability of the vignette. We’ll get to part 1 in the near future.

Second, on Wednesday, we uploaded the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy for the website. You can see the links to them down at the bottom of the page. When we opened the online store (hurray, we have a store!), I needed to create some policies to cover my rear. First up is the Terms of Use. It covers things like don’t steal our stuff, don’t hack our site, and don’t be abusive to other commenters. It also makes clear that the site is provided on an “as is” basis and the update schedule is a guide and not a guarantee. The second is the Privacy Policy. In short, we have to collect some information to provide you services on the site and for analytical purposes, but we will not sell your information to other parties. I recommend you give both a read.

Almanac References: Maison, Nightwork, Ouah

Chapter 5 Page 5 is up. Mathilde goes to see Blaise. We haven’t seen Blaise’s apartment yet so we’re in for a treat. TAH-DAH! The Snow by Night Store is finally here! It took quite a bit of code wrasslin’ and some sharp shootin’ against tricky e-store sites to get us here, so I hope you enjoy the fruits of our labor. In the store, you’ll find the first three chapters in wonderful full-color print, prints of each of the main characters and the cool alchemical gun, as well as a dozens of buttons. Those prints come in a variety of sizes so be sure you’re looking at the size you want when you order. The colonial slang buttons are some of our best sellers at conventions.

I spent most of the long weekend sick in bed, and I’m still a bit wobbly, but it’s a happy relief to be able to finally share the Store with you.If you notice any errors or bugs in the site code, please do point them out to me so I can fix them. I’ve scoured the site myself, so hopefully that’s a non-issue, but when you’re manually updating hundreds of pages, human error can catch you unawares.

This week’s Almanac entry is the Seigneur. Since so much of the action in this and the past chapter has centered around the manse of the Seigneur de Foucault, I wanted to talk a little bit about the “nobles” of Aradie. Yes, nobles is in quotes, because the nobility of Saronne would not consider them nobles at all.

I also have some good news and some bad news. The bad news first. Half of my staff is down in Atlanta attending DragonCon. If you are going and bump into them, please say hello. They’ll be the two artists flinging paint at people. Watch out. Naty kicks. Anyway, I will need to evoke the holiday clause for Labor Day. We will not be posting a page update on Monday. My apologies for any inconvenience. But we’ll have a fresh new page on Wednesday, and maybe something more, which brings me to the good news.

The good news! Diane is very close to having the store ready to roll. We’ll be putting the final touches on it over Labor Day weekend and we hope to have it up next week. Once that is up, you can order books, prints, and buttons. No more waiting for us to come to a convention near you. The store is pretty slick looking. Diane did a great job with it. I think you’ll like it.

Almanac References: Glean, My eye

Almanac References: Ninnyhammer, Sacre

The long promised GenCon report is up. I did it through pictures. They’re all up on our Facebook page. I had a great time at the convention. I got to meet Greg in person as well as Christine – one of my fellow artists in SpiderForest. Wizards also released my book Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue. It got a very good review on EN World. I’m so excited.

For this week’s Almanac entry, I’m describing two more of the guilds of Sherbourg. Since Mathilde is visiting the marketplace, it seemed appropriate to discuss the Artisans’ League and the Mercers’ Consortium.

I still didn’t get a chance to upload all the pictures from GenCon. While I’m doing fine for having surgery, I’m on crutches and sleeping a lot. The convention report was one of the casualties. I’ll see about getting it done tomorrow. So keep an eye on our Facebook page.
