Winter Fantasy Page 2
June 4th, 2013Blaise’s daydream takes us to the stage of the Harp & Trumpet on Page 2 of Winter Fantasy. Blaise, like most of us, sounds better in the shower or in our dreams. To see Julie’s gorgeous rendition of the outside of the Harp & Trumpet, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Winter Fantasy Page 1
June 2nd, 2013Today we begin with page 1 of Winter Fantasy. This vignette is the first to feature a main character. Normally, I use the vignettes to tell stories of side characters, but I wanted to show some of what is going on inside of Blaise’s head at this moment. His head is filled with bubbles and streamers as he delights in his new-found love. With such thoughts, it was only fitting that the vignette be a musical number.
Yes, a musical number. I wanted to see if I could pull off a musical number in a comic format. To do that, I recruited Julie Wright. She is an amazing artist who is the colorist for The Dreamer as well as one of the creators of Ianua. She rose to the challenge and the art she produced is breathtaking.
The melody I’ve chosen for Blaise’s love song is Auprès de ma Blonde, a traditional French song that dates back to the 18th century. It’s a drinking song that then became a marching song. Leave it to Blaise to make a drinking song into his love song. The most endearing version of this song I could find is by nondepouk on YouTube. It’s fantastically sweet and simple – one man with a guitar, which is how I figure they would have sung it on the frontier.

Almanac – The Quadrivium
May 30th, 2013In this week’s Almanac entry, we return to the Enlightened Studies to discuss the Quadrivium, which are the next four revelations of Giavere after the Trivium. Fun fact — the Trivium and Quadrivium are drawn directly from the structure of courses at medieval universities. Because the Quadrivium was more advanced, anything minor and easy was learned in the Trivium, making it… trivial.
Etymology is fun.

Chapter 6 Page 29 concludes with a new bargain struck between Snow-by-Night and Blaise. Let’s hope that the third time is the charm. Next Monday, we begin the vignette Winter Fantasy, illustrated by Julie Wright. To see a sample of the incredible art you can expect, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comic.
Brittany and I traveled down to Animazement this weekend and the convention lived up to its name. It was amazing. We met so many great anime fans down there and got to tell hundreds of people about our comic. We sold close to 70 books, which is a record for us. No rest for the wicked though. Anime Mid-Atlantic is right around the corner.
Almanac – Masons Guild
May 23rd, 2013Hi, everyone! Diane here to bring you the Almanac update while Brittany and Eric are away at Animazement! If you’re attending, make sure to stop by and bother them for me! Say hello and check out Chapters 1-4 for sale and all our other merchandise available. Eric and Brittany would be happy to sign copies for you, if you like. Anyone interested in merchandise who isn’t local can also check out our online Store.
Eric wrote an entry on the Mason’s Guild yesterday before he left, tying into last week’s entry on the Fundament Exchange. There are rumors of some political goings-on behind the scenes that I found intriguing… He forgot to leave me the typical parchment background file, so I had to make do with this, the Mason’s Guild marque.
Also remember that you can vote for us on Top Web Comics daily to see a preview of the next page!
Chapter 6 Page 28
May 21st, 2013Blaise finally catches Snow-by-Night when she runs out of town on Chapter 6 Page 28. There, she confides in Blaise what she saw in the temple of Giavere and makes a startling declaration. To see the next page in progress, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics and see several panels of Brittany’s pencils.
Only one more page left in this chapter. I’m afraid that Monday is a holiday for us. So our next page update is next Wednesday, May 29. After that, we start the vignette for Chapter 6, titled Winter Fantasy. It’s written by Yours Truly and drawn by the immensely talented Julie Wright. You may know her as the colorist for The Dreamer or as one of the creative pair behind Ianua. I’ve poached her for this project and I’m so glad I did. It is so dreamy. Which is good, because… well, you’ll see.
Animazement this weekend. Brittany and I are off on Thursday since it’s down in North Carolina. Diane’s in charge while we’re gone. I’ll do my best to get an Almanac entry together before I go.
Chapter 6 Page 27
May 19th, 2013Blaise and Snow-by-Night bound across the rooftops of Sherbourg on Chapter 6 Page 27. To see a glimpse of what awaits them on the next page, please vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics.
Brittany and I will be attending Animazement this weekend. We’re at table M24 on this handy dandy map of Artist Alley. We won’t have a new page on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
Last week, I added Snow by Night to Tapastic in an effort to reach more people, and has it been successful. Tapastic even featured us on their front page. If you have a moment, please visit our series page on Tapastic and give Snow by Night a rating. The higher our rating, the more notice we’ll get over there.
Almanac – Fundament Exchange
May 16th, 2013This week’s almanac entry is the Fundament Exchange. Fundament is ore, pulled from the ground and in its natural state, unchanged by human hands. Many of the investors in the Aradie Trading Company dreamed of riches similar to what the Ilandrians are pulling out of the southern continent of Ascuta. They were sorely disappointed for the wealth of Everique does not glitter like gold.
Next weekend, Brittany and I head down to North Carolina and attend Animazement. Stop by and say hello if you are attending and check out our line up of books, buttons, and prints. Or maybe hire Brittany to do a commission. You can find a map to Artist’s Alley here. We’re booth M24.
