The Art Contest concluded on Saturday night, and we have a winner. Congratulations to Laura Chilson for her fine piece of Blaise with the alchemical seal. My thanks to all the artists who submitted pieces to our art contest. I’ll be in touch this week regarding the prizes. Also, my thanks to everyone who voted. We’ll be moving all the submissions over to our Extras page this week.

This weekend is AwesomeCon! I’ll be there at booth 347. I’m participating in the World Building panel on Friday at 4 p.m. and Creative Collaborations on Sunday at 2 p.m. We’ll be hanging out next to our good friends Julie and Amanda of Ianua. Because I will be at Awesomecon, there is no Almanac entry this Friday. Also, this coming Sunday is Easter and we will not be posting a page update next Monday.

Smuggling, Tax Evasion, and Guild Evasion! The Crimes of Taxation are the subject of this week’s almanac since Blaise and Jassart are searching the house of known smuggler. Smuggling is more than just avoiding duties. The colonial government puts strict limits on how many furs go out and how much brandy goes in. This keeps the price of furs elevated to where it is profitable. This limitation is one of the most flouted laws in the colony.

The championship round of the Art Contest ends this Saturday. Two excellent submissions await your consideration. Vote for your favorite. You can vote once a day so if you like them both you can vote for one on one day and the other the next day.

Snow by Night will be at AwesomeCon on April 18-20. We’re sharing an endcap with Julie and Amanda of Ianua at Booth 347. I’m hoping to have some new goodies available there. Hopefully, the print run will be done on time.

Jassart (re)explains his plan to Blaise on Birds of a Feather page 4.  Blaise may be a good charm (lock pick), but his listening comprehension skills leave something to be desired. We had some trouble with our server on Friday and a bit on Saturday. Our host had a bad node and Diane had to flap her arms at them until they fixed it. After some discussion we decided that the server trouble affected all the contestants equally. So we’re going to maintain Saturday at midnight as the end of the Final Four round and proceed from there.

Congratulations to Laura Chilson and Rein Eire. They are moving to the championship round. Winner of this round wins the contest and gets the grand prize. You can vote daily for your favorite.  They are two excellent pieces.

This week’s Almanac entry are the Crimes of Property. Well some of them anyway. I’m covering Burglary, Pick Pocketing, and Robbery this week. They’re all theft, but differ in the means and targets.

This week’s Almanac entry is Brandy! This potent liquor is an important trade good and a key part of the Fur Trade in Everique. Since this is an alchemical setting, I’m running with the idea that liquor is the spirit of the grain or fruit, released through distillation. So drunkenness is caused by imbibing too much Sophic Mercury. This could have interesting implications for our story.
