Almanac – Punch

January 16th, 2011

This is our first Almanac update since we went live with the site in November.  This week, our subject is punch!  Blaise and Jassart are enjoying a pitcher at the Harp and Trumpet on page 9. In fact, Blaise gives away the ingredients to what they’re drinking. To find out more about this popular beverage, see the entry in the Almanac on punch. Just look under Cuisine in the Culture book  of the Almanac.

Links Abound

January 14th, 2011

One of the new additions to the website is the Links page. I’ve started off with links to five other websites that I highly recommend: LaSalle’s Legacy, Tamuran, The Dreamer, Today Nothing Happened, and Raging Swan. Rather than just post the banner, I’ve added a short personal note explaining why I am recommending it.

I have also created a number of banners to link to Snow by Night. Feel free to use the banners to link back to Snow by Night, and help me spread the word of our tale of colonial fantasy.

Chapter 1 Page 11

January 11th, 2011

Almanac References: Ouias, Slip

Page 11 is up.  Jassart and Blaise continue their up-to-now one-sided conversation, and another party joins them at the end. I love that last panel Brittany and Ricky put together, and I’m guessing you will too.

Now that the new website is up, I’m going to be updating the Almanac on a regular basis. The Almanac gives additional information into the world of Snow by Night that is not contained in the comics. It has always been my goal to update this resource regularly.  So starting next Monday, I’ll providing weekly insights into our setting. I hope you enjoy them.

Website Refresh

January 5th, 2011

As you have probably noticed, the new year brings a new website for Snow by Night. The beautiful revised design is the creation of Diane Hazlett – our new webmaster. When Diane joined my team in December, I asked her to give the website a facelift. I wanted the new site to  (1) be accessible by the widest variety of devices possible, (2) load quickly, and (3) be easily to navigate. I think she’s succeeded admirably.

The new story pages are resized for easy loading, and they come with navigational controls at the bottom. She added in a Table of Contents to help readers sort through the different chapters as we continue to add more pages. The new journal page allows for comments without needing to know to click on the headline and I love the color scheme. The Almanac page is now set up for me to add more information about the world. She also added a Links page with links to other websites we enjoy and banners for others to link to us. Even the background got a make-over to a simpler graphic that loads faster and is easier on the eye.

We’ll continue to make more changes to the website as we grow. I’ve got several plans that will keep Diane busy.

Chapter 1 Page 10

January 5th, 2011

Almanac References: Garnish, GendarmePunch, Saronne

Happy New Year!  Page 10 is up. Our first page of the year brings our total number of pages into the double digits. Hurray for our first milestone!  I will admit that I had a lot of fun lettering this page. I wanted to make the words of the song join with Brittany’s incredible art to make a pleasing whole. I hope I succeeded.

Chapter 1 Page 9

December 29th, 2010

Almanac Reference: Saloon

Page 9 is up – welcome to the Harp and Trumpet Saloon! It’s one of the many watering holes on Iniquity Row that caters to the sailors, trappers, and scoundrels of Sherbourg. In addition to libations, it offers a variety of entertainment, including performances by the fabulous Mathilde, the star attraction.

A Raging Review

December 24th, 2010

A few months ago, I did some work for Raging Swan Press, called Pazuzu’s Fury, which details a particularly nasty group of harpies for use in fantasy role-playing games. Yesterday, we got a 5-star review on Paizo. I’m positively beaming. The reviewer particularly liked my story see of “The Ugly Duckling.” What is an ugly duckling among harpies? Read the review on Paizo to find out. Or better yet, buy Pazuzu’s Fury from Raging Swan. It’s $2.99 for the pdf. An excellent deal.

Chapter 1 Page 8

December 22nd, 2010

Almanac References: Blessings, Riverside District, Skunked

Page 8 is up. We leave the rich and quiet streets of the Upper City for the raucous nightlife of Iniquity Row in the Lower City. In a port town such as Sherbourg, the bars, saloons, and gambling hells operate late into the night. Brittany and Ricky did a great job capturing the feel.

Jassart uses the term “blessing” in the final panel. This is a the slang term for the Eci, the most common coin used in Sherbourg. Later this week, I’m going to update the Almanac to tell you more about the currency. When your heroes are a couple of thieves, it’s all about the money.

And finally, happy holidays to everyone.  Whatever you celebrate, I hope you all have a joyous celebration.
