Almanac – Voyageurs
December 22nd, 2011This week’s almanac entry is the Voyageurs of Aradie. These canoe men are the long-haul truckers of the Everique wilderness. They paddle, they carry, then they paddle some more. It’s a life of toil, but it’s a life of breathtaking views and enormous independence. Aradie’s wealth could not exist without them.
In other news, I just got finished sending my payment so Snow by Night has a table at Katsucon February 17-19 at the National Harbor in Maryland. We’ll be in the Artists Alley. Brittany and I will both be attending. We’ll be bringing freshly printed copies of Chapter 2 to join our inventory of Chapter 1.We will also have a good selection of buttons, featuring Brittany’s art and colonial slang. Come say hello!

Almanac – Rendez-vous!
December 15th, 2011This week’s Almanac entry is the Rendez-vous! The Rendez-vous is the Mardi Gras of Sherbourg. It’s a two week long out-of-control party when the trappers come to town. It’s so huge that it created the Iniquity Row. I particularly like the twisting of real custom for the Promenade. Read all about it in the almanac.

Almanac – Fur Trade
December 8th, 2011This week’s Almanac entry is the fur trade. Since we’re introducing our trapper in Snow-by-Night’s story, it seemed a good time to talk about the economic foundation of the colony. It’s a fascinating subject. Money just poured through historical French Canada and the trade caused a number of wars between the various tribes of the northeastern woodlands. Our story takes place about a century before the fur trade collapsed so the wealth is there for the taking. This also explains why you have so many rooks, smugglers, and other ne’er-do-wells in Sherbourg.

Chapter 3 Page 8 is up. Snow-by-Night begins her tale explaining why she is in Sherbourg. Say farewell to civilization as we we venture deep into the wilderness in the footsteps of the trappers.
Just an fyi, Snow-by-Night, the character, is hyphenated. Snow by Night, the title of the comic, is not.
To see a lovely panel of manitou and trapper from next Monday’s page, vote for Snow by Night on Top Web Comics. We’ve inched up to #66 in the poll. Brittany and I greatly appreciate your support.
