Cannons are the biggest, baddest boomsticks of any era!
While it’s a shame the US no longer fields the 8″ers, 200lbs of shell is a bit much to move for even the strongest of soldiers, the 6″ers can clear a gridiron football field of anything not made of reinforced concrete or basalt.
And we still decorate them! Though, mostly with paint, because they have to be light enough for us to move. Beliferous and Ba’al made the Waygul Valley much more peaceful from 2011 to 2012, and they had help from their Afghan cousins Anger of Pech and Pride of the One. :-D
The basic concept of artillery hasn’t changed in about 500 years either, we’ve just really started to understand the science behind it in the past 100.
